Simpcw First Nation's Band Administrator |
|
Band Administrator Doug Brown
As Administrator of Simpcw First Nation I bring several decades of experience in working with First Nations in education, intergovernmental relations, administration and economic development. My main priorities as Administrator are as follows:
- Ensure that Simpcw First Nation assets are carefully and strategically managed to get the most benefit for the community in the long term;
- Encourage a culture of friendly cooperation and mutual support among Simpcw First Nation staff and Council members;
- Develop capacity within Simpcw administration for increasing self-reliance over time;
- Expand the economic base of Simpcw First Nation over time within its territory, so that Simpcw is seen as a major economic force throughout its territory;
- Assist Chief and Council in ensuring that Simpcw aboriginal title and rights are respected, and that action is taken to secure economic opportunities to the Simpcw for jobs, businesses and band revenues derived from economic activities in Simpcw territory.
In pursuing these priorities, I would like Simpcw band members to view the band administration as acting in their collective interests as a community, and as being open to their ideas and supportive of their interests. While working toward serious objectives, it is also important that we enjoy the experience together, and always maintain our good humour and respect for each other. Kukstemc for the chance to work with you.
