SALMON RUN
The first “Salmon Run” started from Tete Jeune Cache on the Upper Fraser River and made its way down Yellowhead Hwy#5 to Kamloops, through Savona, Cache Creek, down the Fraser Canyon on Hwy.#1 to Vancouver. The purpose of the Salmon Run was to raise funds for the CN Twin Tracking court case. In 1989 Canadian National Railway had plans to put another track along side the existing track. All First Nations involved felt that was would be disastrous for the salmon resource that travel the Fraser and North Thompson Rivers. Today the Simpcw First Nation members still carry out the Salmon Run from Tete Jeune to Louis Creek. The trek is divided up into three sections. A variety of people volunteer their time to ride a bike over a span of a weekend. The event usually happens the first weekend after the Labor Day holiday.
On October 6&7 was the annual Salmon bike trek for 2007.
