Please Come & Join Us! Requesting Volunteer Fire Fighters (15+ years). Practice is held every Thursday from 7 pm – 9 pm . An honorarium is paid on a quarterly basis at $15.00 per practice and fire call out. To qualify for Honorarium, you will be required to sign in and remain for the full practice and/or call out. All training will be provided and all expenses (transportation, meals & accommodations) covered. Occasional travel may be required to participate in training sessions.

Fire Department History (1985 to the Present)

The department started out with 8 active members of all age groups.  Presently the core group consists of six members.  Fire Chief plus five other band members. The current fire hall was open in the fall of 1988. The current members have taken basic fire training from First Nations Emergency Social Services and Justice Institute of B.C. (JIBC).

First Responders:
A few of the current members and additional members have been added to the department as First Responders.  A First Responder is an individual who volunteers his or her time as a qualified first aider, trained by JIBC, who responds out ahead of the B.C. Ambulance Service.
Chu Chua is at least 20+ minutes from the nearest clinic and up one hour or more from a hospital.  First Responders are called out before an ambulance in life threatening emergencies to provide first aid until the ambulance arrives.  The fire depart also has one qualified Emergency Medical Responder volunteer.

Main Equipment:
2003 Ford CAFS truck (150 gal.), '08 Freightliner Tanker (1500gal.) with on-board hose reel and fire pump, ’74 International Tanker (1500 gal.) with rear mounted gasoline water pump and reel with 100' of hard hose, SCBA tanks, portable 1500 gal. tank. Emergency jump kit with Oxygen tank on board the CAFS Truck for First Responders  We are currently selling the '74 International Tanker.

Over the past couple of summers, the fire department has set aside time to teach our youth the basic fire fighting training.  They saw this as time well spent, having young people who had some knowledge in case of a real big emergency.

The fire department has played an active role in the “Learn Not To Burn” campaign in our school.  The department has put on different sessions involving Neqweyqwelsten School  ie. Teaching how to use a fire extinguisher.

The Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department host annually a slo-pitch tournament as their main fund raiser.  The year 2009 marked its 23rd annual tournament.  The tournament is held the second or third weekend of July.

During the 2003 fire, the Fire Department helped the Barriere Fire Department. We provided the service of both of our trucks during the Fire.

The Fire Deparmnet has an aggreement with Barriere Fire Department, so either one can help each other out during an emergency. There is also an agreement in place for the Barriere Fire Department to protect the Louis Creek Reserve.

Members of the Chu Chua fire department participate the monthly valley fire chief's meetings.
