Mission Statement

Simpcw Sustainable Resource Department (SRD) in partnership with Simpcwetkwe is committed to the protection, conservation, and sustainable management of Simpcwulucw in a holistic manner.

The SRD is capable to do the following projects:

  • Full phased forest management including development planning, license administration, harvesting, marketing & silviculture.
  • Resource permitting.
  • Environmental monitoring.
  • Wildlife surveys, monitoring & research.
  • Contract negotiation, supervision & management.
  • Joint ventures with industry in forestry, mining, tourism and utilities.
  • Fisheries enumeration, habitat restoration, hatchery management, education, conservation & protection of all fish stocks.
  • Referrals management.
  • Title & Rights research and coordination.
  • Archaeological Overview Assessments (AOA).
  • Contract and finance management of SRD.
  • Long-term planning for community infrastructure with community consultation.
  • Acquisition and negotiation of all resource based opportunities within Simpcwulucw; creating partnerships with industry.
  • Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping.

 

Simpcw Community Businesses:

Simpcw Resource Department (SRD) supports and encourages all band membership owned ventures. SRD relies on Simpcw membership and band owned business to the success of many of our SRD projects. Community owned businesses perform construction, restoration, rehabilitation, harvesting, professional and technical services.

The SRD and Simpcw Community Businesses are participating in the following projects:

  • High voltage transmission lines development, licensing, monitoring, supervision and clearing for industry and crown agencies.
  • 10 years of Chinook enumeration/Catch Monitoring/fisheries coordination for Secwepemc Fisheries Commission (SFC) under Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy.
  • Operations & management of Dunn Creek Coho Hatchery for Department of Fisheries & Oceans since 1983.
  • Fisheries education programs.
  • Land use planning for reserve lands and Simpcwulucw.
  • Pipeline and Run-of-the-River hydro projects.
  • Full phased forestry tenures management for Simpcw Resources Ltd. (SRL) and consulting services to industry and government.
  • Industry and government research, monitoring and studies.
  • Environmental rehabilitation.
  • Archaeological inventories since 1995.
  • Traditional Use Studies (TUS) within Simpcwulucw.
