Simpcw - McBride to Barriere Mtn Bike Recreation & Tourism Initiative

The Simpcw First Nation is partnering with the Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association to undertake the development of a strategy to support Mountain Bike Recreation & Tourism Development throughout the Simpcw territories. This project will provide our community with the strategies and action plans necessary to take a leadership in the development of trails and mountain bike recreation and tourism in Simpcw territories

This project will involve the communities throughout the McBride to Barriere Corridor coming together with the Simpcw Nation to identify opportunities and strategies to support mountain bike recreation and tourism development.

Simpcw First Nation Blazing & Maintaining Trails...

June 10, 2016

Sick edit created by Sky Eustache featuring Leon Eustache riding a newly completed trail in Chu Chua, just north of Barrière, British Columbia. The trail, Section Zero, was started last October as part of the trail building workshop with Mark Wood and the NSMBA - North Shore Mountain Bike Association trail builders academy. This trail was a huge amount of work undertaken by members of the Simpcw First Nation.

The training and work continued this spring with further training with Thomas Schoen from First Journey trails and the BC Aboriginal Youth Mountain Biking Project.

Super fast and flowy, this trail shows the talent and commitment of the Simpcw Nation Trail Crew.

kukwstsétsemc (Thank you) everyone for your hard work!

BMX_BikeTrails_W0380_OV3.jpg

Simpcw First Nation hosted a trail building workshop with Thomas Schoen of First Journey Trails in Chu Chua the week of April 20, 2016. Thomas is a master trail builder and has built hundreds of Kms of trails throughout BC. This training is part of developing the Simpcw Trail Crew. Some of the elements that were covered included the following:

  • Water drainage and environmental building technicques
  • How to construct a proper berm
  • Whistler Trail Standards (as related to TTF’s)
  • Construction of wooden features and ripping boards
  • Standards for clearing “Fall Zones”
