Social Development

Simpcw’s Social Development Department provides programs and services to the Simpcw Community that encourage personal, familial and community health and well-being. This department acts as a way to connect individuals and families with resources that can improve their way of life.

Some of the services they provide include:

  • Income assistance
  • Counselling or referral services (family and individual care)
  • Liaise with outside agencies such as the Ministry of Children & Family Development (MCFD) and Secwepemc Child and Family Services (SCFS)
  • Case management with other Simpcw Administrative Departments
  • Home visits

In addition to these services, the Social Development Department coordinates and promotes many special events within the community. These community gatherings often focus on cultural themes and personal development. Some of the recent events include:

  • Community dinners
  • Holiday gatherings and parties
  • Cultural events
  • Nutrition Program (boxes of healthy food to low-income families and nutritional breakfasts for the schools)
  • Seasonal Solstice Celebrations
  • Productivity Coaching
  • Literacy Programs for Neqweyqwelsten School
  • Contributions to the Language Program at Neqweyqwelsten School
  • Parenting Programs
  • Compassionate Care Programs for family members of ill patients (link to application & policy)
