T’micw-kt Cultural Services LLP

Overview

T’micw-kt Cultural Services (TCS) was incorporated in 2016 by Simpcw Resources LLP and Terra Archaeology Limited. Based in Chu Chua, which is 15 km from Barriere, B.C., TCS has the skills, experience, and resources necessary to offer a full suite of professional archaeological and anthropological consulting services throughout British Columbia.

About the Partners

Simpcw Resources LLP (SRLLP) is an economic development company owned by Simpcw First Nation. SRLLP administers policies, procedures, and operational activities such as work in the natural resource sectors in Simpcwúľecw located in the North Thompson region using sustainable, environmentally, and culturally responsible methods.

Terra Archaeology Limited conducts work at the request of First Nations, federal and provincial government agencies and ministries, private sector corporations, and private land owners. Project scope ranges from single lot developments to large, multi-year projects such as major highway and transmission corridors, mine development, pipelines, and other broad land base projects.

Terra also provides a broad range of services related to the assessment of effects of proposed natural resource projects on Indigenous Interests, including traditional knowledge and land use studies.

Our senior staff members have extensive experience managing archaeology and anthropology projects throughout British Columbia and are eligible permit holders and field directors.

Types of Projects

  • Archaeological impact assessments (AIAs) conducted under provincial Heritage Conservation Act permits
  • Archaeological overview assessments (AOAs)
  • Preliminary archaeological field reconnaissance (PFRs)
  • Archaeological excavations / systematic data recovery (SDR)
  • Archaeological referrals and reviews
  • Archaeological archival / background research
  • Archaeological monitoring
  • Informational seminars and training
  • Cultural aspects of environmental assessments (EAs)
  • Assessing the effects of resource projects on Indigenous Interests
  • Documenting local cultural information including traditional ecological knowledge and traditional land use activities
  • Determining the long-term and cumulative effects of resource projects

Approach

We offer a hands-on project management approach and appreciate the value of in-person discussions with clients, First Nation communities, and other stakeholders whenever needed. We believe in keeping all stakeholders apprised of project progress and are available for discussions as necessary for the duration of the project.

Terra Archaeology’s senior archaeologists and managers oversee and maintain involvement in all of the archaeological services that TCS provides and are available to clients, First Nations, and Archaeology Branch project officers to address any issues or questions that arise regarding a project. Our managers are responsible for the practical aspects of archaeological consulting, and are supported by crews of qualified field archaeologists, First Nations field technicians, GIS professionals, and administrative staff.

Technology & Infrastructure

In addition to using state-of-the-art survey equipment and technology, TCS integrates paperless data collection whenever possible. As a result, our field data is centrally stored and accessible, greatly enhancing our ability to generate interim project reports or letters immediately on completion of fieldwork, if required. TCS has the in-house capacity for all report production, GIS analysis, mapping, and data management. Special requirements of individual projects are accommodated.

Safety

TCS is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all our employees. A comprehensive safety program as well as streamlined procedures and protocols ensure all work is conducted safely and thoroughly. We adhere to all WorkSafe BC and Labour Standards regulations and carry all necessary WorkSafe, liability, and fire suppression insurance. TCS personnel participate in supplemental health and safety training where projects dictate. Both Terra and SRLLP gain the confidence of clients with SAFE certification through BC Forestry Safety Council, certification through the Gold Shovel Standard, and as a member of the ISNetworld safety community.
